Controlling daylight is an essential part of any space. Shades are a critical asset to
any room. Some shade fabrics may contain chemicals for durability that impact indoor air quality and our environment. Sustainable fabrics are free of these chemicals and are a growing option offered to reduce this impact.

How can fabrics be sustainable?
Often fabrics are manufactured with chemicals to make them more durable. Sustainable
fabrics reduce or remove many of these chemicals in order to improve indoor air quality.
Others are made from 100% recycled content in order to protect the environment.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is used in many fabrics to make them more durable. These fabrics are still the ideal solution for projects requiring superior performance and durability. Additives in PVC off-gas and create the familiar "new car" smell. These additives are known as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's). PVC-free fabrics do not contain these additives and as a result, do not release the odor of PVC-based fabrics during off-gassing.

100% Recycled
Recycled products are made in part or whole from material which contains either reused,
remanufactured, or reconditioned material, and includes recycled raw materials. Recycled fabrics reduce the amount of waste entering landfills and decrease the need for virgin materials.

What is LEED?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) is an independent certification program developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for Sustainable Development. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED certification
provides third party verification that a building project is environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work.

GREENGUARD® Certification
GREENGUARD Certified fabrics have either GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality
Certification® for low-emitting furnishings or GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification for low-emitting furnishings used in educational environments. GREENGUARD Environmental Institute is an independent organization that tests and certifies materials used for furnishings to ensure they contain minimal or non-existent levels of contaminants that could impact indoor air quality. The testing parameters assess over 75,000 chemicals and toxins in fabrics manufactured worldwide, allowing this certification to be accepted by a number of environmental organizations in the United States, including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®), Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS), and Green Guide for Health CareTM (GGHC).

Oeko-Tex Standard 100® Certification
The Oeko-Tex® Association is an independent organization that certifies fabrics worldwide to be free of harmful concentrations of dangerous chemicals. These substances must be non-existent or at very minimal levels in order to receive this certification. Items marked with this label have been certified as being good for personal well-being. Certification lasts twelve months to ensure continual compliance with the testing standards.
